Big disappointment: Tamil Nadu MK Stalin to boycott NITI Aayog meeting over Budget snub (X/mrs_roh08)
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has made an important announcement, accusing the central government of gradually snatching the rights of the states. He has announced the formation of a high -level committee, which will extensively review the issue of autonomy of the states. This committee will be chaired by former Supreme Court Judge Kurien Joseph.
In this panel created by the government, retired Ashok Vardhan Shethi and former Planning Commission Deputy Chairman M. Naganathan have also been made members. This committee will study constitutional relations between the Center and the states and see which subjects are removed from the state list and put in the concurrent list. Stalin clarified in the assembly that the committee will also investigate whether this process has been in line with the Constitution. Especially he cited the NEET exam, which he described out of the jurisdiction of the states.
The Chief Minister informed that this committee will submit the interim report to the state government by January 2026. Whereas detailed documents with final reports and suggestions are planned to be prepared within two years. It is believed that with this initiative the state government wants to give legal and political answers to the increasing intervention of the Center.
Earlier on March 22, Stalin also lodged a protest against the Center on the demarcation of new Lok Sabha seats to be held after the census. He called an important meeting of opposition parties in Chennai. However, the Trinamool Congress did not join it. Leaders from Kerala, Telangana, Punjab and Karnataka attended the meeting. Chief Ministers of these states Pinarayi Vijayan, Revanth Reddy and Bhagwant Mann were also involved in this shared strategy.
